hqcreations asked me what part of the Cattail plant do I use to make my cordage?
I cut flowerless Cattail stalks right above the water level. I then peel the leaves away from the stalk for even drying and re-trim the length to remove any of the white-ish bottom section (It’s brittle when dry).
Cordage is most easily made when the cattail has dried for 28-36 hours. It’s moist enough that it is flexible, but dry enough it doesn’t shrink badly and screw up your cordage. NEVER DRY OR STORE CATTAIL IN THE SUNLIGHT, it loses it’s green color VERY quickly from UV damage.
